GM - EMD – EXHAUST MANIFOLD

Exhaust Manifold of GM-EMD is manufactured for use on 16 Cylinder Diesel Engines that generate power more than 4000 HP and less than 5000 HP. These are for use on WDG4 Locomotives of Indian Railways.
CONSTRUCTION:- Exhaust Manifold of GM (EMD) Locomotives are fabricated from EMS 64 Grade Alloy Steel. This grade of Steel contains Chromium and Molybdnum. It can withstand the corrosive atmosphere of exhaust gases at temperatures in exces of 600° C. EMS 64 grade steel enhances the life of manifold and prevents premature failure.
EXPANSION JOINTS:- Bellows used on Exhaust Manifold are made from AISI Grade 321 Austenitic Stanless Steel Sheet according to EJMA Standard. Expansion Joints are incorporated between the segments to absorb vibrational and thermal stresses.
WELDING:- Due to Chromium and Molybnum content in EMS 64 Grade Alloy Steel, we use 'Low AMPS INPUT' advanced welding process - GAS TUNGSTEN ARC WELDING with the help of insert consumeables. Stringent checks over welding parameters result in producing nearly uniform mechanical properties in the weld metal, heat affected zone and base metal in the as welded condition. Dye penetrant Test and Air pressure Test are conducted to check quality of welded products.
FITMENT:- Exhaust Manifold is checked for fitment on specially designed jig. This ensures smooth fitting of the system on the Engine.
